Wheelchairs and walking aids

Travelling with a wheelchair or walking aid requires some preparation, but we are here to make the process as straightforward as possible.

This article covers everything you need to know before your journey - from stop accessibility and wheelchair requirements to how to register your mobility aids and arrange any additional assistance you may need on board.

Wheelchair-accessible bus stops on our network

We are continuously working towards improving accessibility across our network. However, as the redesign of stops for wheelchair accessibility takes time, we are not yet in a position to offer a comprehensive nationwide network of fully accessible stops.

As we do not directly operate the stops ourselves, we are currently unable to provide detailed information about their individual infrastructure.

We strongly recommend contacting your local stop operator directly before your trip to confirm the accessibility facilities available at your departure and arrival stops.

Wheelchair requirements

Only wheelchairs that meet specific safety standards are permitted in the passenger cabin of our long-distance buses. Before your journey, please ensure your wheelchair complies with the following requirements.

To be permitted in the passenger cabin, wheelchairs must:

  • Meet the requirements of DIN EN 12183 or DIN EN 12184 as a passenger seat

  • Use a restraint system compliant with DIN 75078-2

Maximum permitted dimensions:

  • Width: 70 cm

  • Length: 120 cm

Maximum permitted weight (including occupant): 300 kg

If you require further information, please refer to the related articles section at the bottom of this page or contact us via the contact options below.

Wheelchairs and walking aids registration

Mobility aids including folding wheelchairs, walking aids, and other orthopaedic aids can be transported free of charge.

Depending on whether your wheelchair will be stored in the luggage compartment or used in the passenger cabin, different registration deadlines apply.

To allow us to check the available transportation options, we ask that you inform us of the exact model of your wheelchair or walking aid before booking.

Please click on the "Open form" contact option below and complete the relevant form by selecting:

  • Subject: Passengers with Disabilities

  • Specify: Wheelchair Registration

Registration deadlines:

  • Passenger cabin (travelling seated in your wheelchair): at least 7 days before departure

  • Luggage compartment (folding wheelchair or walking aids): at least 36 hours before departure

We will be happy to check availability for you.

If you are travelling in North America or the UK and wish to travel seated in your wheelchair, you can add your wheelchair directly during the booking process - no separate registration form is required.

If you have made your booking already and want to register your wheelchair, click on the "Open form" contact option below and complete the relevant form by selecting:

For mobility aids stored in the luggage compartment, please inform us of your requirements at least 24 hours before departure.

No prior booking is needed to submit your wheelchair request. You are welcome to get in touch with us before completing your ticket purchase.

Should your plans change after we have confirmed your wheelchair registration, please notify us as soon as possible so that the reserved wheelchair space can be made available to other passengers who may need it.

Assistance with a foldable wheelchair

If you are travelling with a foldable wheelchair, we recommend travelling with a companion who can assist you where needed. Please refer to our dedicated article on travelling with a companion or service dog for more information.

To ensure your journey runs as smoothly as possible, please get in touch with us in good time before your trip so we can discuss your specific requirements in detail.

Please click on the "Start chat" contact option below and ask to speak with a representative.

Please communicate your requirements (such as boarding and alighting assistance or notice of limited mobility) at least 36 hours before departure.

For journeys in Australia, please inform us of your requirements at least 24 hours before departure.
